Ready to release your map?
First Release of the Map
- Make sure you went through our checklist, and ensuring that ran a full compile.
- Give your map a beta distinction by adding
_b1(for beta 1) to the end of your BSP file's filename. For example, if your map's filename washappyland, change it tohappyland_b1. No map is ever ready on its own with its first release. - Zip your map. If you have other files with your map (textures, sounds, etc.), remember to inclue them. Use the pball/maps/yourmaphere.bsp directory structure in your ZIP. This way, downloaders can just extract your map's ZIP file to their Paintball 2 directory.
- Create a new post in the Mapping forum that includes:
- A brief description of the map
- A couple of screenshots that give the general idea
- A link/attachment to the ZIP file of your map (you can upload maps to Zilla Clan's upload service if you wish)
Critiquing Phase
Now that you have released the map, it should be a beta version. Be accepting of what respectful community members have to say about your map. Make the changes they suggest as you see fit. When you feel you are ready for another release, increment the beta number, and do the same as for your first release. If your map is deemed sufficiently playable, it may be put onto beta test servers for testing.
Final Release
When you are ready to release a final version...
- Ensure you compiled everything correctly and that you have gone through our checklist.
- Tell the forum about the final version in the original thread you created.
- Submit your map to DP Resource's map database.
